NetworkTuna v1.0.7

Devices lists the devices your computer talks to, late replies no longer look like port scans, and Security gets severity tabs.

NetworkTuna 1.0.7 Beta focuses the Devices list on the devices your computer actually talks to, stops late replies from other devices from looking like port scans, and brings count tabs to Devices, Security and Blocked activity.

Install this release over your current version. Your rules, settings and history are kept. The device list starts fresh, so the devices you use appear again, each reported once as new, as they talk to this computer. The installers are digitally signed by DeinitLabs.

New features

  • Devices now lists the devices this computer was in contact with, plus your router. The upgrade clears the device list recorded by earlier versions, which included every device NetworkTuna noticed on the network. A device returns as soon as it is in contact with this computer again, and NetworkTuna reports it as a new device that one time.
  • NetworkTuna no longer sends network-wide discovery queries in the background and asks only listed devices for their names. Scan network is replaced by Check device, which checks one listed device.
  • Devices, Security and Blocked activity use tabs with counts. Devices offers All, Online, New and Routers, Security offers All events, Alerts, Warnings and Info, and Blocked activity offers New, All apps, Other and Event log.
  • The Devices page keeps its recent-addresses option in a Filters panel, shown as a chip while the panel is closed.
  • The Event log names the kind of each blocked TCP packet, such as a connection request or part of an existing connection.
  • Firewall prompts mark the app icon with a question shield. It is amber, and red when the app is unsigned or its signature is invalid.
  • The whole Recent activity header on Security Events page now expands and collapses the activity strip.

Fixes

  • A device that answers this computer's own connections late, such as a notebook waking from sleep or a paused music app, no longer raises a recurring port-scan warning.
  • The NetworkTuna service could crash as it stopped and leave a crash report behind. It now shuts down cleanly.
